Dr. H. Darrel Darby

The late H. Darrel Darby, DPM, was born in Quinwood, West Virginia. He worked as a coal miner prior to attending Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana; Marshall University, and the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He and his wife Laura made Huntington their home in 1956. 

Darby served on several boards including Trinity Church of God, American Board of Podiatric Surgery, American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, Marshall University Board of Advisers, West Virginia Board of Medicine and Huntington City Mission to name a few. In 1999, he was named one of America's Most Influential Podiatrists by Podiatry Management Magazine. In 2004, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Citation from the American Podiatric Medical Association. In 2002, The Herald-Dispatch honored Darby as its Business Innovator of the Year. 

Darby developed his company, DARCO International, in 1987 with locations in Germany, China and Huntington. He made mission trips to Honduras where, after seeing the disturbing living conditions, he bought screens for doors and windows for all the homes in that village. Darby died in 2003.
