James (Jim) Hanly Morgan Jr.

Jim Morgan is a lifelong resident of Huntington who attended local schools and graduated from West Virginia University with a BS in agricultural sciences in 1959.

After graduation, Morgan was active in the management of Morgan’s Inc. and the operation of the family’s 600-acre dairy farm in Mason County. Morgan’s Inc. purchased Stationers Inc. in 1980. The combined companies had six locations with 125 employees selling office products, gifts and a college bookstore serving Marshall University. In 1987 the company was sold and Morgan became general manager of the operation. In 1991, he purchased the bookstore and renamed it Stadium Bookstore, which was managed by a lease operator until early 2015 when the property was sold.

Morgan became a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in 1960 and served in many lay capacities. He was elected a trustee of the Episcopal Diocese of West Virginia and was ordained a deacon in 2008 and a priest in 2018.

He has served as president of the Huntington Rotary Club and the Huntington Symphony Orchestra and chairman of the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce and the West Virginia Retail Association. He is currently a board member of the Cammack Children’s Center, president of the Stella Fuller Settlement Inc. and secretary-treasurer of the Huntington Clinical Foundation.

Morgan has been active in state and county politics, serving as treasurer of the Cabell County Democratic executive committee, as a Cabell County commissioner from 1974-76 and 2016-22, and as a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates from 1988-92 and 2001-16.

He has been married to the former Elizabeth Ainslie for 62 years. They have four children.
