John C. Beckwith started in the food business in 1939 with a small produce stand and three employees. He built the area’s first supermarket in 1946. In the years ahead, the B&B Food Market would become the region’s largest independent food retailer and would be continuously remodeled and expanded to keep pace with the latest innovations in food sales.
Besides being a hard-working businessman, he has for 25 years spearheaded Cancer Day, an annual event which sees local businesses donate a percentage of their sales to the American Cancer Society.
From Huntington, the event has spread to other communities and has raised countless dollars for the fight against this disease.
