Nancy Jane Carter

2015 Inductee

Nancy Jane Carter was born in 1946, the daughter of Mary and Bob Carter. Being from an entertainment vaudeville family, Carter started touring the country when she was 6 years old as a twirling tap dancer. After graduating from Fairland High School, Carter opened Nancy's School of Dance in 1964 with two students in the basement of her Westmoreland home. 

For more than 50 years, her work has expanded locally and internationally, as she has taught in France, Mexico, Spain and England. Her students have won countless local and national competitions.  

Along with dance and yearly recital productions, she operates many summer camps training students in twirling, majorettes, rifle and flag groups in West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida. Carter has performed benefits which have raised more than $100,000 for Huntington area charities including the Ronald McDonald House, Hospice of Huntington, the American Cancer Society, Miller Methodist Church, New Baptist Church, Huntington-Cabell-Wayne Animal Control Shelter and Little Victories Animal Rescue.
