Dr. Ambrose Everett McCaskey

1998 Inductee

Dr. Ambrose Everett "Doc" McCaskey was born in New Martinsville, West Virginia. He came to Huntington in 1936 and was named chairman of the Marshall College Department of Engineering in 1939. As a professional engineer of national reputation, distinguished university professor and scholar, a prominent community leader, and decorated soldier, Dr. McCaskey was an expert in the area of water quality and established an award-winning water quality program while with the Huntington District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

His awards and honors include a mention in Who's Who in Engineering, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Engineers of Distinction, and American Men of Science. March 2, 1987, was proclaimed "Dr. A. E. McCaskey Day" in the City of Huntington. 

His community involvement was extensive. He was a member of Huntington Rotary Club, City Planning Commission, Board of Valley Health System, West Virginia Community Planners Association, Huntington Sanitary Board, American Water Works Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, Engineers Club of Huntington, West Virginia Society of Professional Engineers and National Society of Professional Engineers.

Dr. McCaskey’s main impact was on the students he mentored. His contributions to the educational maturity and professionalism of hundreds of former engineering students and his patience with young engineers helped mold their skills and values.
