Julian R. Huffman

1995 Inductee

Jule Huffman made a name for himself through television and radio. He got his start at WSAZ TV in Huntington in 1953 after attending the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. He began singing, hosting and announcing his way through shows like “Nite Watch,” “Coffee Time” and “Popeye and his Pals.” But “Mr. Cartoon” was Huffman’s real claim to fame.

In Huffman’s role as Mr. Cartoon, several generations of children benefited from his positive thoughts concerning self-esteem. Children across the Tri-State knew Huffman’s instructions that he gave often on the air -- "Remember to go to the church or synagogue of your choice, brush your teeth, say ‘yes sir’ or ‘no mam,’ and remember the five magic phrases -- please, thank you, you're welcome, excuse me and I'm sorry.”
