An insurance agent and broker by profession, William C. Campbell is far better known as “Mr. Golf.” This recognition comes not just in Huntington and in West Virginia, but on the national scene and around the world. He won the U.S. Amateur Golf Tournament, the U.S. Senior Amateur title twice, 15 West Virginia Amateur and three West Virginia Open titles. He played in 18 Masters, 15 U.S. Opens and 37 U.S. Amateur tournaments. He also served as president of the U.S. Golf Association.
The Cammack Children’s Center, the Huntington YMCA, the Huntington Museum of Art, Marshall University and the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce were but a few of the many local organizations he supported.
