Dr. Arthur Shade Jones

Dr. Arthur Shade Jones was born in Huntington on Oct. 11, 1885. He attended Marshall College and completed his medical degree at the University of Virginia. During WWI, he served as a Medical Corps captain in England and France performing battlefield surgeries.

In 1921, Dr. Jones returned to Huntington to establish the Crippled Children's Hospital and organized the West Virginia Crippled Children's Society. Jones established the Huntington Orthopedic Hospital in 1928, which became the Huntington Hospital. Jones' dedication to treatment of polio and the overall well-being of the community continued until his death with the establishment of the Huntington Foundation through the sale of the Huntington Hospital in 1986.

He was a member of the Huntington Rotary Club and is a Paul Harris Fellow.

Jones married Fannie Harrison Mills Jones on Oct. 11, 1933. They had a son, David, and daughter, Mary Hanna, plus four grandchildren.
