Roberto Moretti

1989 Inductee

Roberto Moretti began studying the family craft of glassmaking at the age of 13. Like his father and his grandfather, Moretti became a master of the medium. He was commissioned by artists such as Picasso and Chagall to execute their designs in glass.

In 1958, Moretti brought his art from his home in Murano, Italy, to the Pilgrim Glass Company where he pioneered the movement for glassworkers to design and form their own creations. His work received acclaim at numerous exhibits including the International Glass Show, the 1965 New York World's Fair, and the Corning Museum of Glass. While the fluid lines and interplay of light refraction and reflection in Moretti's work made them masterpieces, his personal philosophy made Moretti a classic. "Art is not mysterious. It is the best of yourself," Moretti proclaimed.
