Troy Fitzgerald Brown was born in 1971. He attended Blackville-Hilda High School in Blackville, South Carolina. It was there he first lettered in football along with track and field. His high school team won the state championship in 1988.
Brown spent two seasons at Lees-McRae Junior College in Banner Elk, North Carolina. He received no interest from recruiters at the I-A or I-AA level until then Marshall University assistant coach Chris Scelfo noticed him while at Lees-McRae recruiting an offensive lineman and punter. Scelfo said he could tell Brown was mature and commanded everyone's respect.
Brown became a standout wide receiver, punt returner and kickoff returner for Marshall University, leading Division I-AA in both kickoff and punt return averages in 1991. The following year, Marshall won its first national championship. Brown was named Marshall's most valuable player when he intercepted a "Hail Mary'' pass against Youngstown State in the final seconds of the game.
Brown was drafted by the New England Patriots in 1993. His first year as a starter was 2000. In 2001, the Patriots won their first Super Bowl title. Brown chose to settle in Huntington where he was touched by the people and their kindness. He has given back by helping with football camps, Boys and Girls Clubs and Fuel Up to Play 60.
