Verna K. Gibson was born in Elkview, West Virginia, the daughter of Carl and Virginia LeMaster. She graduated from Point Pleasant High School and moved to Huntington to attend Marshall University in 1960.
Gibson started her career in Huntington at the Smart Shop and then moved up to become the president and CEO of the Limited Stores and served on the Board of Directors of Chico's.
Gibson has served on the Federal Reserve Board in Cleveland, Ohio, and on the Marshall University Board of Governors, where she was chair from 2009 to 2012. She has an honorary doctorate from Marshall University and has been inducted into the Marshall University School of Business Hall of Fame.
